1. Who We Are

The Star People ("we," "us," or "our") operates the mobile application and website at thestarpeople.app. We provide astrology, Human Design, dream journaling, and personal growth tools.

For EU/UK users, support@thestarpeople.app is also the point of contact for all data protection inquiries. EU users may also contact their local data protection supervisory authority if they have concerns about our processing of their personal data.

2. What Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account information: Email address and display name when you create an account.
  • Birth data: Date, time, and location of birth. Used to calculate your astrological and Human Design charts.
  • Dream journal entries: The text of dreams you record in the Dream Portal. Personal and sensitive — see Section 5.
  • Compatibility data: Birth information you enter for other people when using the Compatibility feature.
  • Subscription and billing information: Managed by Apple App Store, Google Play, or Stripe. We do not store your payment card details.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage data: Which features you use, how often, and general interaction patterns.
  • Device information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for debugging.
  • Session data: When you open the app, how long sessions last, and which screens you visit.

Cookies and Tracking (Website)

Our website at thestarpeople.app does not use advertising or tracking cookies. We may use strictly necessary cookies for session management and authentication. We do not track you across other websites.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to generate your charts, power the Astral Mirror, analyze dream journal entries, calculate compatibility readings, show daily cosmic weather and pulls, manage your subscription, send transactional emails, debug errors, and comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties. Ever.

4. AI Processing

The Star People uses Anthropic's Claude AI to power the Astral Mirror chat, dream analysis, and chart interpretations. When you interact with these features, relevant portions of your chart data and, where applicable, your dream journal entries are sent to Anthropic's API for processing.

Anthropic's data handling practices are governed by their privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy. We have a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) in place with Anthropic governing this processing in accordance with GDPR requirements. We use prompt caching to minimize data transmission. Anthropic does not use your data to train AI models.

5. Dream Journal Entries and Sensitive Data

We treat dream journal entries with particular care. They are personal, intimate, and may touch on matters of mental and emotional health.

  • Dream entries are stored in your private account and are not visible to other users.
  • They are only used to power the AI features you explicitly activate.
  • We do not use dream content to train AI models.
  • We do not use dream content or any personal content to build profiles for advertising or third-party purposes.
  • You can delete individual dream entries or your entire account at any time.

6. Data Sharing and International Transfers

We share data only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Anthropic: Chart data and dream entries for AI features. US-based; covered by DPA and Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).
  • Supabase: Database and authentication. US region; covered by Supabase's DPA and SCCs.
  • RevenueCat: Subscription management. US-based; governed by RevenueCat's privacy policy and DPA.
  • Stripe: Web payment processing. US-based; governed by Stripe's privacy policy and DPA.
  • Apple / Google: In-app purchase processing on iOS and Android.
  • PostHog: Anonymous product analytics. Feature usage events only, not personal content. Covered by DPA and SCCs.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

International Transfers (EU/UK users): All third-party processors listed above are US-based. Where we transfer personal data outside the EU/UK, we ensure appropriate safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, or equivalent mechanisms under UK data protection law.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing purposes.

7. Data Retention

  • Account data: Retained while active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion request.
  • Dream journal entries: Retained until you delete them or delete your account.
  • Conversation history: Retained while active. You can delete individual sessions from the app.
  • Usage analytics: Retained in aggregate, anonymized form for up to 24 months.
  • Billing records: Retained as required by applicable law (typically 7 years).

8. Your Rights

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request that we correct inaccurate data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and personal data via Settings → Delete Account or by emailing us.
  • Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Restriction: Request that we restrict processing in certain circumstances.
  • Objection: Object to certain types of processing, including processing based on legitimate interests.

GDPR (EU/UK users): Our lawful basis for processing is performance of a contract and legitimate interests. We will respond within one month. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority — for example, the ICO in the UK (ico.org.uk) or your national data protection authority in the EU.

CCPA (California users): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, and to opt out of sale. We do not sell personal information.

9. Children's Privacy

The Star People is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), secure authentication via Supabase, row-level security on all database tables, and JWT-authenticated API calls for all backend functions. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@thestarpeople.app.

11. Changes to This Policy

We will notify you of significant changes by email or in-app notification at least 14 days before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
